This is Pendlebury’s second trip to Flagstaff with his first in 2006.
“I suppose the camp, from last time I was here, it has gone up another level,” Pendlebury told CTV after day six.
Over the last two days the team completed the ten commandments, an exercise program that placed players into smaller groups and forced them to work together through trying physical activities.
“Today we did the last seven commandments and we did three yesterday.
“We did the bike, the rower, bench press, chin-ups, run and a swim. It was one of the toughest sessions I have done.”
Pendlebury will look to launch into his fourth season of league footy and build on his 55 game career.
“I am feeling pretty fresh at the moment, I suppose we have only been going for two weeks now and the International Rules (Series) was a good leap up to make sure my body was in good nick.
“I am feeling good now and I have to just get through to Christmas uninjured and then after that I just have to look forward to the season.”
He highlighted the fact that the team has a bank of potential captaincy choices with the retirement of the former skipper Scott Burns.
“We have a good group of guys that can pick up leadership but I suppose with leadership, my look on it is you can’t really change in a preseason to become the captain. You just have to do what you usually do and that will get someone through.
“I am sure whoever they pick as captain, there are five or six guys that could do it.”
After only six days in Arizona with his teammates, the 20 year old is pleased with the progress of the younger players.
“Even those younger guys that have put their hand up on this trip with their work rate and their desire to get a game next year and to be a regular player and a good player are really standing out.”
