YOUNG Brisbane Lion Bradd Dalziell says the players can't wait to play under Michael Voss.
Voss was appointed coach on Tuesday after four-time premiership coach Leigh Matthews resigned on Monday.
Dalziell, who is in Melbourne for Wednesday's NAB AFL Rising Star (he was nominated in round 21), said he was excited to be playing under one of the game's all-time greats.
"Most of the guys at the club now have played with him or have had a lot to do with him, but I've only seen him every now and then during the day, because he just works across the road," Dalziell told afl.com.au on Tuesday.
"I haven't had a great deal to do with him, but everyone speaks so highly of him and like Leigh, he demands respect and I think that he's going to be very well suited to the coaching job.
“He's got a world of knowledge, he's a triple premiership captain and he's a Brownlow Medallist, so he'll do a great job with the young guys and the guys at the club.
"Most of the talk was that it was going to be 'Vossy' coming to the club, because it's been in the media a lot and he's been waiting in the wings. The guys will be very welcoming to him and we can't wait until next year with 'Vossy' as head coach."
Still, Dalziell acknowledged the enormous contribution Matthews had made at the Lions – and in the game – saying he had been a great help to his emerging AFL career, which resulted in 185 disposals from seven matches at an average of 26.42 touches per match.
"It surprised everyone with Leigh's decision yesterday and everyone thought he'd stay, because he was contracted for next year," Dalziell said.
"All of the guys will deeply miss him next year, because he was a great coach and every time he spoke, people listened. He knew what he was talking about and if you weren't doing something right, he'd tell you.
"He wouldn't say anything bad to you, but you'd really take it on board and try and fix it. He'd tell blokes what their deficiencies are and how you'd work on them. He helped everyone in that way.
"Leigh had a meeting with us and said he wants to last out this week and he's still going to go through the same review process against Sydney and work out what we could've done better from that game.
"He's still going to hold his coaching duties for the rest of this week and apart from that, I think he'll finish up after this week."
Dalziell, who shone on debut with 32 disposals against West Coast in round 16 this season, said earning praise from the master coach, after his first game, was a thrill.
"It's great to get a wrap from Leigh, because he's such a powerful figure," he said.
Meanwhile, Dalziell said the recent penning of a new contract from superstar co-captain Jonathan Brown was also a great buzz.
"That's a real big plus for the club. The team is built around him and he's one of the best players in the AFL and the best forward in the AFL and our team is only going to get better with him in it," Dalziell said.
