The Blues beat the Magpies by 51 points and had 10 goal kickers, with Fevola not being one of them.
“He played a team role, and 'Ratts' (coach Brett Ratten) highlighted that after the game. He pushed up on to the loose players and really helped us in that area,” Gibbs said of Fevola.
“He was more positive and really upbeat than most weeks. It is important that we get an even spread of goal kickers; to (not) have him kick a goal and we still win like that, there are a lot of positives.
“We can’t rely on one person. It takes 22 blokes to win a game. For him not to kick a goal and we still win by that much ... it was great.”
While Fevola might have been quiet, another superstar in Chris Judd was in top form, gathering 32 disposals. Gibbs was full of praise for his captain.
“He has been great. 'Juddy' can do anything. He starred and brought a few guys with him, which was good,” Gibbs said.
“He can (win another Brownlow), but he is probably going to get some attention over the next couple of weeks. We’ve got to do our best to help him out and hopefully give him a few chop-outs.”
The Blues are sitting in sixth position, but while finals are very much a possibility, the understated Gibbs is not looking that far ahead just yet.
“That has been our aim since the pre-season. We are in the mix at the moment, but it is still a long way to go. Anything can happen. The competition is that even, anybody can win on any given day. The old cliché, we’ll take it one week at a time and hopefully we are there come September,” he said.
Carlton has not played finals since 2001, but Gibbs said playing in front of crowds like Sunday’s 82, 834 would give their younger players plenty of valuable experience.
“A few of the younger guys like Chris Yarran, Mark Austin and Mitch Robinson ... it was a great experience for them, and after the game when we’d won, just to walk over to the Carlton supporters and thank them was a really good feeling.”
