HAWTHORN forward Mark Williams is still in contention for his 2008 AFL debut against Adelaide on Sunday after he was only fined for urinating on the ground before the start of a VFL match last weekend.

Williams fronted the VFL Tribunal on Tuesday night over the incident and was fined $500, but is free to play for Hawthorn or their VFL affiliate Box Hill this weekend.

Williams pleaded guilty to misconduct and told the tribunal he was embarrassed by his actions, which occurred before Box Hill's match against Tasmania at Box Hill City Oval on Sunday. The VFL panel labelled his actions unacceptable, unhygienic and a bad look for the competition.

The club confirmed in a statement on Tuesday night that they would not impose any sanction on Williams either, saying he was available for selection.

Hawthorn's leading goalkicker in 2005-06, Williams will turn 25 on Sunday, and only managed four games in 2007 because of a knee injury.

He was a late withdrawal from the round-one win against Melbourne after he suffered a corked thigh at training.
