BOTH player and coach know a 12-goal haul against Essendon might delay what seems an inevitable move to the engine room for West Coast’s Mark LeCras.

The Eagle has only been sparingly used in a midfield role so far in his career, but after a few seasons at senior level appears more than ready to unleash his sublime kicking skills.

However, his ability to be lethal near the sticks might give John Worsfold pause before considering the move.

LeCras enjoyed his finest match against the Bombers on Saturday night, booting 12.2 to destroy the Dons and lead his team to a stunning 32-point win.

Despite deflecting talk of his own heroics, saying he was happy a “few lucky ones had snuck through”, LeCras admitted it had been a career-best night in front of goal.

“It’s a pretty rare one for me,” he said in the Eagles’ rooms after the match.

“I’ve never kicked 12 before, but obviously [it’s] great to have a win for the boys.

“We’ve been down for a couple of weeks, so it’s a great feeling in the rooms.”

LeCras kicked all four of West Coast’s first-quarter goals, had seven by half-time and brought up double figures 18 minutes into the third term.

His 11th and 12th goals were added in the final term but LeCras was still mindful that his role may take him further from goal.

“I’d obviously like to be able to add that to my game to be able to change things up here and there," he said.

“I got a little bit of a run in the middle last week which was good, so we’ll wait and see what happens.”

Worsfold, who rated his star’s game among the best in the history of the club, said managing LeCras and his list would be crucial to future success.

“I think he’s got an ability to play in the midfield but we’re building some of the younger players through there,” the coach said of his onball brigade.

“He’s had some soreness throughout the year and we’ve sort of been nursing him through a fair bit.

“So when the time’s right, we’ll see him more up through there.”

However, after seeing LeCras boot a dozen goals and completely control a match, the coach admitted it was a tough call as to whether a move to the midfield was in fact the best option.

“That’s a good question,” he said.

“I think overall, for our development down the track, we think we’ll be able to get a big spread of goalkickers and Lecca will add value in the midfield at times as well.”
