The incident occurred when the young ruckman, who was standing with his back to a beach fire, was accidently knocked into the fire by a group of young men who began wrestling on the beach close to where Renouf was standing.
Renouf received burns to his arm, leg and lower back. He immediately cooled the burns in the ocean and was soon after transported to a local hospital.
There was no police involvement at the scene and the hospital admissions report stated that alcohol was not a factor in the incident.
Hawks players resumed pre-season training today at Waverley Park, however Renouf will re-join his teammates as of next week, having received treatment this week at a Gold Coast hospital for his burns.
Hawthorn General Manager Football Operations Mark Evans said that Renouf was receiving the best care possible.
Brent is in a good condition and is receiving quality medical attention, said Evans.
The burns are localised to three areas and the burns are approximately the size of a hand in each area. The burn on Brent's forearm has required a skin graft with two small parts, each the size of a 20c coin. The burns to his lower back and leg appear to be minor.
"Brent is progressing well, in good spirits and he will return to pre-season training next week."
