The Herald Sun has labelled the Lions front-runners to land Fevola, with speculation he could be sent to the Gabba in exchange for Victorian forward Daniel Bradshaw and a draft pick.
Meanwhile, The Australian reports that Collingwood put an offer to Carlton yesterday, albeit in superficial talks while key football staff remain in Canberra for the NAB AFL Draft Camp.
St Kilda has been named as a club of choice for Fevola, but there has been no comment from the Saints on whether they will actively pursue him. The club is considering its options according to the Herald Sun.
Since Fevola was put up for trade on Wednesday, the Sydney Swans and Western Bulldogs have ruled themselves out, as have unlikely destinations Fremantle and West Coast.
Clubs have either baulked at the 28-year-old's age, price tag or have key forwards in reserve – such is Hawthorn's case.
However, The Australian and the Herald Sun both report that Carlton would be willing to pay half of Fevola's salary over the last two years of his contract if it can secure a suitable deal.
At Essendon, out of contract speedster Andrew Lovett appears destined for either Fremantle or the Brisbane Lions, with speculation Fremantle will try to land the 26-year-old in the NAB AFL Pre-Season Draft, in which it has the third selection.
The Australian reports Fremantle's preferred option is elevate Lovett's price tag and leave the Bombers with no compensation, whereas the Brisbane Lions would be willing to trade for the midfielder's services.
The same newspaper has linked Carlton ruckman Shaun Hampson, 21, with Port Adelaide, which is on the lookout for a successor to the retired Brendon Lade.
It is suggested Power coach Mark Williams wants to forward the No.9 pick Port would receive from Hawthorn in a trade for Shaun Burgoyne onto Carlton for Hampson.
Burgoyne talks are reported to have stalled between Hawthorn and Port with Essendon back involved. The Australian reports that the Power are insisting on a first-round draft pick and either Jordan Lewis or Grant Birchall before they release Burgoyne.
