Collingwood has officially kicked off its preseason training on Friday 12 November, two days before the team departs to Arizona.

Coaches, players and staff gathered around the Olympic Park running track to watch the playing list complete the two-kilometre time trial.

Senior coach Mick Malthouse, back from his tour in Ireland, tipped last year's winner Steele Sidebottom to take top spot.

Heading into the fifth and final lap, Sidebottom was step for step with Irish-recruit Paul Cribbin, a Gaelic star who is renowned for his speed.

The luck was shining on the Irish lad, who kicked up his heels over the last 100 metres to declare himself the fastest Magpie at the club.

Top three in two-kilometre time trial

1. Paul Cribbin
2. Steele Sidebottom
3. Scott Pendlebury

The team finished the session with a light workout at Gosch's Paddock before the skipper, Nick Maxwell, addressed the waiting media.

Collingwood will depart to Flagstaff, Arizona on Sunday afternoon for a two-week high-altitude training camp.  As in previous years, the club will utilise Northern Arizona's location to give the players a strong base of fitness ahead of season 2010.

Collingwoodfc.com.au will be there for every step of the way.  Stay tuned to the website over the next few weeks for daily updates from the trip.
