Wednesday 7 May 2008 marks the 116th birthday of the greatest football club in the land.
It was on this day 116 years ago that the Collingwood Football Club was formed at the Grace Darling Hotel in Smith Street, Collingwood.
The club went on to play Carlton in its first ever game in the Victorian Football Association in 1892, then in 1897 became one of the founding clubs of the Victorian Football League.
The rest, as they say, is history, and no sporting organisation in the world is prouder of its history and achievements.
An historic Thursday night centenary match was played in 1992 between Collingwood and Carlton at the MCG.
