After having floated the idea that it might be time to give up the captaincy, Nathan Buckley has been reappointed to lead the club on the field for a ninth successive year.Buckley told a media conference at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Thursday that he was just "thinking aloud" late last year when he nominated James Clement as his preferred choice to succeed him as captain. But Buckley said he didn't think twice about accepting the role for 2007 when he emerged as the clear winner in a vote of players at the club's pre-season camp in Arizona."My initial concerns were that perhaps a vacuum needed to be filled for other leaders to come up," Buckley said."But when we got to Arizona it was evident that the young players at the club had decided that they wanted to be young leaders and I was encouraged by that and saw that a succession plan was already in place."I was convinced that I basically didn't need to step down at this particular time and that it was the best thing for the club for me to continue."The position of Collingwood captain is something that I hold in great stead, it's something I'm very proud of."Coach Mick Malthouse said the club looked at other options for the captaincy including a joint-captaincy arrangement before opting to retain a single leader in the role."We feel very confident and comfortable with our set up," Malthouse said.Clement was named as Collingwood vice-captain for 2007 with Josh Fraser and Ben Johnson the club's deputy vice-captains.
