GREATER Western Sydney is no closer to re-signing its No.1 ruckman Jonathan Giles with talks on a new contract at a stalemate, Giants list manager Stephen Silvagni says.
Silvagni told SEN radio on Tuesday night the Giants remained keen to re-sign Giles, 24, who was a revelation in his first AFL season this year, shouldering most of GWS' ruck load over his 20 games.
But Silvagni said Giles was still unhappy with the money the club had offered him to remain a Giant.
"I guess we're at a bit of a stalemate," Silvagni said.
"We would certainly like Jonathan to remain at the club, but having said that it's got down to a money issue and certainly we understand that from Jonathan's point of view.
"[But] what we've put on the table we feel is fair and reasonable.
"I guess there's a chance [he won't be at the club next season]. Having said that, we'd like to retain him but obviously we've only got so much [money] to go around.
"We've just got to make sure we do the right thing by the club."
Giles was taken by the Giants with pick No.3 in last year's Rookie Draft, having previously spent four years on Port Adelaide's list without playing a game.
