We are three brothers who are all fanatical Lions fans. We come from Bendigo so hope to be one day be like the Selwood brothers. We recently got a puppy and was wondering how many Lions players have dogs as their best friends?
The Brook Boys - Blake, Darcy and Fletcher - from Cannon Hill (QLD)

A lot of the guys at the Club have dogs. Michael Rischitelli is one who really loves his dogs - he has two German Shepherds.

But the biggest dog fan at the Club was definitely Jason Roe. He used to shower with his dogs and when he would travel for interstate games, he even left notes for his dogs to read while he was gone.

Hi Ash, We have been on the Todd Banfield bandwagon since seeing him in the NAB Cup. Can you tell us what his nickname is? We think he's going to be a great player for the Lions.
Shaz from Greensborough (VIC)

He has plenty of nicknames like ‘Banga’, ‘Budget’, ‘Amish’, ‘Pumpkin’, ‘Scrooge’ and ‘Thief’. We have also started calling him ‘Scooter’ after Leigh Matthews recently called him 'Scott' Banfield.

Hi Ash, I have noticed recently that you put your finger on your upper lip like a moustache when the Lions sing the club song after a win. Why do you do that?
Jack from Sunbury (VIC)

I actually have a tattoo of a moustache on the side of my finger - although it probably needs a bit of a touch-up at the moment.

It’s just a sign I do for my brothers who are usually watching the game on TV back home in Perth.

G'Day Ash, I'm just wondering whether you would be able to tell us about the meals you consume before and after games. Obviously prior to the games it’s about carbohydrate loading and afterwards is about replenishing glycogen with energy dense meals, but what exact meals do you usually have? If it’s a Saturday afternoon game, what would your meals be like on Friday night, Saturday morning and Saturday night? Thanks in advance mate.
Drew from Sandringham (VIC)

On a Friday before a game I usually have a big bowl pasta to boost up the carbs and then I usually eat a normal breakfast the next day which is cereal, orange juice and maybe an omelette.

I’ll eat a chicken sandwich for lunch before the game and maybe snack on some tinned spaghetti.

After the game you can pretty much eat what you want because you need to get the fats back into your body. The boys usually have some pizza or hamburgers to replace the fats after the game.

Hi Ash! Do any of the players put themselves in their own Dream Team?
Dan from Ormeau (QLD)

I did, and I think I’m coming about dead last in the Lions competition.

I might have to think about trading myself out pretty soon.

Hey Ash, how far away are Jed Adcock and Amon Buchanan from playing in the seniors? Is there any chance for them to come back in for the Sydney game? Also, how is Callum Bartlett moving in his first couple of games back from serious knee injury? Can we expect to see him play in the senior side this year?
Alex from SA

Jed and Amon are pretty close this week and might be considered for the Swans game. I think they’ll have to pass fitness tests first though.

Callum Bartlett is going along well. I have actually received a heap of questions about him lately. He’s played a couple of Reserves games now and must be starting to feel more confident with his body.

We will have to wait and see whether he cracks it for a senior game this year.

Hey Ash. How is Niall McKeever going after being drafted from Ireland. I was over there last year and watched him play some handy football for Antrim. Hows he going with the oval ball and the heat?
Pete from Banyo (QLD)

Niall is going pretty well. He was one of the better players for the Reserves last week against Broadbeach playing in defence.

His pale skin is starting to cope a bit better with the Queensland weather and he has even started taking English classes because the boys struggle to understand him at times.

Hey Ash, will Daniel Merrett and Jonathan Brown be right to play this week against Sydney?
Aaron from Broadbeach (QLD)

I’m pretty sure that big Dan Merrett won’t play this week. He hurt his hammy against Melbourne and might miss a week or two. It will be a big loss because the Swans have a few big guys up forward.

As for Browny - as far as I know he’s right to go and will play against Sydney. There’s been a lot of talk about the big fella struggling with an injury at the moment, but he seems no different than usual to me.
