Fresh from signing a new contract that will keep him at North Melbourne until the end of 2013, Matt Campbell says he's eager to get his pre-season campaign underway.

The exciting small-forward has had a horrid run of injuries over the past two years, but isn't dwelling on his bad luck.

"As my hamstring got better at the end of the season my form began improving so this is what I want to build on for next season to hopefully stay injury free," Campbell told kangaroos.com.au.

"I'm really grateful to the footy club for helping me work towards my full potential and I'm looking forward to repaying the faith they've had in me."

Media reports suggested more than one club was interested in obtaining Campbell during the AFL's trade week, but the number 33 had no hesitation in staying at Aegis Park.

"I'm really happy to be here at North Melbourne with this exciting young group, especially with Brad (Scott) as our coach," Campbell added.

"Brad's been great for us in our last two seasons. He's good at inspiring the young boys and he's a good communicator.

"I think he's going to teach this group how to be successful and how to be elite sportsmen which is what we're heading towards."

Campbell and his team-mates traveled to Utah on Friday for the club's second high-altitude, high performance training camp.

"The opportunity to go to Utah over the next few years is a real benefit to me as a footballer and to our entire group.

"It's a lot of hard work over there but it's what we need to improve and we're all really excited."
