On Thursday 30 October the Collingwood Football Club allocated funding to 19 community groups and programs in the Caroline Springs area.

Cheques worth over $50,000 were presented to program coordinators who provide fantastic services to kids, mums, community programs and sports in the area surrounding “The Club” in Caroline Springs.

The funding is part of an allocation of over $100,000 each year that the Collingwood Football Club provide to worthy groups and programs that service the Caroline Springs community.

The ongoing funding is part of the commitment from “The Club” Caroline Springs which is owned by the Collingwood Football Club to provide financial support to the immediate community that they are so much a part of.

Collingwood’s chief executive, Gary Pert, was on hand to donate the money to the community groups and programs.

“I was delighted to provide the funding to so many local community groups who were clearly appreciative and in many cases made it clear that without Collingwood’s ongoing support, their programs would cease,” Pert said.

“Collingwood has a 100 year history of community involvement and contribution and we will continue to provide funding and support to individuals, charities and sporting organisations that we are aligned to.”

One of the program coordinators, Judy Saw, runs the “Energizer” program which serves a healthy breakfast to students of the Coburn Primary School.

“Many of the children don’t have the financial means to start their day with a healthy meal so we come to the school early and run a small nutritious brekkie,” Saw said.

“If the kids can have a healthy meal to start their day, it changes everything.  Their brains are switched on and they absorb a lot more of what the teachers are saying.

“Last term we didn’t have the funds to run the program but thanks to this money we will be able to continue the breakfast’s for the students this term.”

Also present at the presentation was chief executive of Melton Shire Council, Neville Smith.

“We are extremely happy with our relationship with Collingwood and we hope that they money from the club will help revitalise some of our community programs.”
