AFL Victoria, AFL SportsReady and the Collingwood Football Club Foundation have partnered together to develop the Barrawarn program, a three year program that is designed to increase Indigenous participation in employment and training with a strong community football involvement.

We are seeking Indigenous applicants in 5 regional locations. The four confirmed locations are Shepparton, Ballarat, Morwell and Dandenong and the fifth location to be either Wangaratta or Mildura.

As part of the training provided by AFL Victoria, trainees will work closely with the Region Development Manager, Region Manager and local League/Club networks working on the implementation of programs designed to build Indigenous capacity and promotion of participation and engagement at all levels of football.

The trainee will work with:

? AFL Victoria development staff.

? VCFL and metropolitan leagues regarding Indigenous programs.

? School Sport Associations.

? School Principals, Physical Education Teachers & AFL School
Ambassadors.

? Local Government and other Government Agencies.

? Auskick Centre Coordianators

? Victorian Indigenous Co-operatives & associated organisations.

? Indigenous community organisations such as MAYSAR (Melbourne Aboriginal Youth, Sport and Recreation) and VAEAI (Victoria Aboriginal Education Association Incorporated.


The main roles of the traineeship include:

? Undertake training and gain workplace experience in the football development
operations of AFL Victoria.

? Support the implementation of Indigenous football programs in targeted schools and clubs.Assist in the co-ordination of AFL Indigenous player appearances to promote Indigenous programs and conduct football clinics in schools and communities.

? Assist in planning, implementing and evaluating events that support Indigenous football programs, E.g. AFL curtain raiser, AFL half time Auskick games and NAIDOC week activities.

? Assist in the organisation and conducting of Indigenous training camps for U14 - U16 year old players aligned to talented player development Programs.

? Assist in establishing & supporting Indigenous Auskick Centres in areas with high Indigenous populated areas.

? Assist with providing administration support to AFL Victoria and League programs.

? Assist with the implementation of AFL Victoria’s Indigenous employment strategy
