The Collingwood Football Club is mourning the passing of former club president John Hickey who died on Saturday 3 January and was buried on Wednesday.

He passed away at the age of 88.

Hickey was president between 1976 and 1982 when the club played in five grand finals and was one of the most powerful teams in the VFL.  He was awarded honorary life membership in 1984.

He led the Club with integrity and dignity, earning the respect and friendship of everyone at Collingwood and the entire football community.

He was also a distinguished pilot during World War II and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC) for his service.

We extend our deepest sympathies to John’s wife Nancy and the Hickey family.
