THE WEST Coast Eagles have landed two big off-field guns in recent weeks, but coach John Worsfold's immediate concern is the pair that will occupy Hawthorn's forward line this weekend.

Lance Franklin returns home to WA six goals short of 100 for the season, while Jarryd Roughead booted six majors against the Eagles in round 14.

But, with an injury list that won't wilt, the duo appears set to be marked by two of the Eagles least experienced defenders in 20-year-old Eric Mackenzie and Beau Wilkes, 22.

"Those two guys (Franklin and Roughead) have kicked a lot of goals each this year and they're the real two key focal points for them," Worsfold said on Wednesday.

"And our young defenders will have those big challenges.

"Looking at what Eric Mackenzie and Beau Wilkes have shown over the last few weeks, they've taken up some big challenges and performed very well.

"So to say which one of those guys would maybe be the best match up on either Roughead or Franklin, maybe (we'll) give them that opportunity."

Darren Glass remains an option to man either of the damaging forwards, and the coach was confident Wilkes, who was stretchered from the MCG with a neck injury last week, would play.

Ash Hansen has also recovered from an ankle injury but David Wirrpanda (hamstring), who has not trained this week, is in a fight against time to be fit to help his inexperienced teammates.

"Wirra [we're] not as confident at the moment.

"It's a pretty bad cork and it's right in his buttock running into his hamstring and his hamstring was sore anyway, it's sort of linked to that.

"The last game he played he complained of a sore hamstring and then got the cork so it's a bit of both."

The uncertainty leaves Worsfold with either 25 or 26 fit players to choose from this week, but with premiership player Sam Butler also pushing for selection a debutant is unlikely against the Hawks.

However, there are two guaranteed debutants off the field for West Coast next season with Neale Daniher joining Michael Voss at the club as head of football operations.

Worsfold said he was looking forward to working with both and praised the club's professionalism for luring two highly respected football figures.

"We have a vision that we work towards and goals that we want to achieve and we put things in place to achieve that. And we've got the ability to succeed and achieve those things," he said.

"It's a strong, very strong, very professional, very well run football club and I think that comes through."

Worsfold said he will meet with Daniher in September to discuss the club's new look football operations set up, while Voss will take up his post closer to the end of the year.
