GEELONG coach Chris Scott says the Cats still don't know whether Travis Boak will quit Port Adelaide, despite speculation that Matthew Primus' exit from the Power has convinced Boak that he should return to Victoria.
"I noticed this morning that some people have chosen to speculate on that situation," Scott said at Simonds Stadium on Tuesday.
"I would be staggered if they know more than we do, and I can categorically tell you that I am no better informed today than I was last week.
"People shouldn't make stuff up."
The Cats have aggressively targeted Boak, who won Port Adelaide's best and fairest last season.
Three weeks ago Geelong enraged the Power by sending a delegation, which included Scott, Joel Selwood and Jimmy Bartel, to Adelaide to speak with the 24-year-old midfielder.
"If Travis decides to leave Port, and I have no information that that's the case, then we would hope that he would think that Geelong would be a good place to be," Scott said.
Scott famously applied for the Port Adelaide coaching position two years ago, but the Power overlooked him and decided to go with Primus.
Despite that history, Scott is taking no joy from Primus' decision to walk away from the club after being told he would not be reappointed for the 2013 season.
"I feel desperately sorry for Matty Primus," Scott said. "Everybody that knows Matty respects him as a football person, as a very smart football brain, and a really good operator.
"I feel desperately sorry that hasn't been able to continue the plan that they initially put in place."
