Ratten wants to exploit the Crows' structured game style, hoping they might struggle to adapt to the slightly different dimensions of the ground.
"You look at probably the ground shape and size, it [changes] from Footy Park (AAMI Stadium) to Telstra Dome to the MCG, they're all a little bit different," Ratten said at a press conference on Friday.
"You need to play a little bit [differently].
"The Crows are that structured, sometimes they just play the same way, all the way - and why wouldn't you? [If] you keep winning games, you may as well keep playing that way.
"You need to play a little different and have some different set ups in your front half and the way you move the ball, sometimes it can be different between venues."
The Crows have made a solid start to the season and have a 3-2 record, while Carlton has won their last two games.
The Blues have not won three in a row since 2004.
Carlton has recalled Bryce Gibbs and Adam Hartlett, while 19-year-old utility Steven Browne will make his AFL debut.
Former Blues star and two-time Brownlow Medallist Greg Williams presented Browne with his guernsey in front of his team-mates before Friday's training session.
