Match Classifications for AFL Members at the MCG

The AFL Membership Service Centre receive several enquires per day regarding whether matches are ‘Walk Up’ or ‘Reserve on Demand’. The following guide has been put together to assist Members with the classifications of matches and where they can sit on a match day.

Walk Up Matches
33 out of 39 matches at the MCG in 2006 are classified as walk-up. This means that reserved seating is limited on Levels M and N and no additional bays will go on sale once the limited areas are sold to ensure that quality walk-up seating is available on the day/night of the match. Reserved seats will continue to sell one bay at a time on Levels P&Q where there is demand for pre-purchase.

The following areas are available to reserve through Ticketmaster from the 1st Saturday of the month in the month prior to the match:
• Level M, Bays 21-23, Rows AA back.
• Level N, Bays 22-24
• Level P, opens up at Bay 15 and sells one bay at a time where there is demand for pre-purchase
• Level Q, opens up at Bay 15 Rows A to J and sells one bay at a time where there is demand for pre-purchase

Bays 16 to 19 and 24 to 27 undercover on Level M, Bays 16-26 on Level M in the open and bays 25-28 on Level N are available for walk-up on the day/night of the match on a first in, first seated basis.

Any seats / bays – irrespective of Level – not reserved, will be available for walk-up on the day. Walk-up areas are displayed for each match on the Members Information board located inside Gate 6 at the MCG.

Reserve on Demand
A reserve on demand match is one which the AFL reasonably expects that demand for reserved seating will be higher than for a ‘Walk-up match’. For reserve on demand matches, seats will be released for sale based on member demand and, contingent on actual demand, all seats in the AFL Reserve may be booked in advance, meaning walk up will not be available.

Bays of seating are released on each level as the previous bay sells.
• M Section (Ground level) undercover bays (Rows AA back) are sold first, followed by the open bays (Rows A-Z).
• Q Section (Level 4) the front bays are sold first (Rows A-J), followed by the mid sections (Rows K-T) and finally the back sections (Row U-DD).

There were 6 matches in 2006 that were classed as ‘Reserve on Demand’. Out of these 6 matches, there are 3 remaining as follows:
• Round 16: Saturday 22nd July, Essendon v Carlton – onsale Saturday 3 June
• Round 19: Friday 11th August, Essendon v Collingwood (N) – onsale Saturday 1 July
• Round 21: Sunday 27th August, Collingwood v Carlton – on sale Saturday 1 July
