kangaroos.com.au took a new approach to interviewing by asking its social media fans to become virtual journalists and submit questions for Max Warren.

Supporters Michelle Parry, Steve Robertshawe and Brayden Cook were lucky enough to have theirs answered by the new rookie in Chelsea Collins’ article below.

Max Warren has barely had enough time to settle in at Aegis Park since his selection in Tuesday’s rookie draft, however his teammates have wasted no time in giving the 18-year old a nickname which is bound to stay with him forever.

“A few of the boys here have started calling me ‘Rabbit’ because Warren is another name for a rabbit’s burrow. Hopefully it doesn’t stick,” Warren said after his second day on Friday.

He may have been surprised by the early initiation but Warren was more stunned to have been picked up by North Melbourne in the first place.

“I wasn’t expecting much from the draft, I had an interview with North during the week but I wasn’t overly confident going in.

“When I saw my name pop up at number 10 I was ecstatic, I couldn’t believe I’d been given a chance, I couldn’t contain myself.

“I was at work at the time in the maintenance department of my old school, Mount Lilydale Mercy College. I had to take an early lunch break to watch the draft on the internet. My workmates were really excited for me.”

Despite already knowing fellow rookie Sam Gibson from a training stint with the Box Hill Hawks, Warren said it was the North Melbourne skipper who eased his nerves and made him feel the most welcome.

“Boomer (Brent Harvey) was the first one to come up and introduce himself to me and he even gave me a call that night to find out how my first day went.

“I definitely look up to Boomer, he’s got the whole package. He’s a great leader, a great trainer and a great role model. When you hear you’re going to be training alongside him that’s really exciting.

“I feel very lucky.”
