The rains held off yesterday for junior West Coast supporters who flocked to Subiaco Oval for the annual Masters Rookie Eagles sausage sizzle.
Always a popular event, this year the club welcomed more than two thousand supporters to the sizzle, all eager for a chance to see their heroes in action up close on the training track and maybe go home with an autograph or two.
Rookie members were treated to a Masters milk and free sausage sizzle cooked up by the East Perth Royals past players and officials, courtesy of D’Orsogna and Tip Top, and kids took advantage of the bouncy castles, face painting and exclusive competitions on offer.
Cheeky Spearmint and Strawberry Cow from Masters made sure to give West Coast mascot Rick ‘the Rock’ Eagle a run for his money, and the players enjoyed the opportunity to catch up with young fans, signing merchandise and taking photos at the conclusion of their training session.
MC extraordinaire Steve Bandy whipped the junior crowd into a frenzy as he kicked a spectacular goal from the boundary line before conducting an insightful interview with senior coach John Worsfold.
The special show of support by young West Coast fans was sincerely appreciated by the West Coast squad as they prepare to topple Richmond in a must-win clash at Subiaco Oval on Sunday afternoon.
