Premiership forward Ashley Hansen continued his push for an AFL re-call with his second successive seven-goal for Swan Districts on Saturday.
The West Coast veteran has now kicked 19 goals in his past three WAFL matches and was responsible for leading his club to an important come-from-behind victory against East Perth.
Young forward Mitch Brown also continued his continued his good form with three goals, 19 possessions and eight marks for East Fremantle, while other players to shine included Sam Butler, in his return from injury, Jordan Jones, Andrew Strijk and Koby Stevens.
Butler had 21 possessions for Perth, Jones had 24 playing in the midfield where he helped orchestrate an upset win over West Perth, while Strijk had 22 touches for the Falcons. Stevens had 20 disposals for East Fremantle against Subiaco while rookie-listed midfielder had it 20 times for the Lions.
Perth v Claremont
Will Sullivan
Had a quiet day for the Demons with just six possessions and did not have an impact on the game. Shared the ruck duties with Andrew McDougall, but was down on previous output.
Sam Butler
Used mainly across half-back and half-forward, except for a brief stint on the wing and took time to work his way into the contest. His second half was better than the first and he set up play on a number of occasions in a team that was completely outplayed by Claremont.
Beau Wilkes
Produced a typically efficient game at centre half-back, played his role in the Tigers outfit and generally used the ball effectively. Took 10 marks and worked but did not have his usual run off half-back.
Lewis Broome (reserves)
Playing the majority of the game in a forward pocket with time through the midfield and half-forward, Broome’s forward pressure was good, as was his ball use. Had a big influence in the third quarter, kicking two and ran strongly, using his pace to advantage.
Gerrick Weedon (reserves)
Was under notice throughout, mainly across half-forward, took some strong marks on the lead and kicked four goals. Produced a very encouraging effort, especially with his marking and finish in front of goals.
Peel v West Perth
Jordan Jones
Enjoyed the opportunity to play through the midfield all game, with a short period across half-back. He was hard in contests and in first half laid six strong tackles. Involved in some great centre clearances and was a key contributor to Peel’s win. Kicked two good goals at crucial times.
Andrew Strijk
Played across half-back and through the midfield and was most prominent in the second quarter when West Perth had the breeze, having 16 of his 22 possessions. He also kicked a great goal from 55 metres in that term. His ball use and decision making were outstanding in a sold effort.
East Fremantle v Subiaco
Matt Spangher
Did not produce his usual dash out of defence where he was opposed to Blake Broadhurst. Had three goals kicked against him.
Koby Stevens
After an enterprising opening term, when he had seven possessions in the first quarter, he continued to work hard. The feature of his game was his work in close.
Mitch Brown
Again was a solid contributor up forward but failed to capitalize on his opportunities. He finished strongly and kicked two goals in the last quarter. He was also good defensively, applying six tackles.
Adam Cockie
After being tagged in the first half and struggling to impact the game, he was very influential in the second half. He was effective around stoppages and in general play and kicked a great goal on the run. Showed all of his strengths in the second half and was an important part of Subiaco’s win.
East Perth v Swan Districts
Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls
After a good first half he did not have the same impact after the long break. He showed a physical presence around the contested ball and was involved in several East Perth goals.
Ashley Hansen
Continued his rich vein of form with another seven-goal haul. Hansen was competitive all day and provided a target for his teammates. Took seven marks, brought his teammates into the game and was central to his side’s victory.
Tony Notte
Used in tandem with Hansen as a deep forward, they proved a lethal combination. Notte led and presented with purpose. Was involved in man goal assists and put showed good forward line pressure. He finished with three goals.
