Collingwood skipper Nick Maxwell and wife Erin welcomed their first child into the world at 11am on Tuesday morning.

The couple checked into hospital late last night and waited just over 12 hours for the birth of Milla Eve Maxwell.

Never forgetting his captaining duties, Nick spent just 15 minutes with his new daughter before he rushed to the club to take part in the club’s annual photo day.

“I told Erin last week that there was a two-hour window we should try and avoid because I would have to come in the club for today’s photos,” Maxwell told CTV on Tuesday.

CTV: Paul Licuria interviews Nick Maxwell about the birth of his first child.

“I held her for the first 15 minutes of her new life as the nurses took care of Erin.  I can’t wait to get back.”

A true leader Nick never showed signs of fatigue throughout the day, as he admitted he wasn’t able to sleep the night before.

“I am a little bit tired, I haven’t slept.  I went into hospital last night and spent the whole night waiting and sitting around.

“I was talking EJ through it all.  I am very happy but I am not sure what she weighs because I had to zip out of there and come straight to the club for photos.

“Erin is fine.  I only spent 15 minutes with her but she did a fantastic job and I am really proud of her.”
