I guess some guys use their left and others use their right - whatever comes most naturally.
There are a few guys that are ambidextrous like Browny who kicks with his right foot but writes left-handed.

But I reckon Toddy Banfield might have taken that mantle from ‘Rog’. He’d probably win a foot race between the two - especially if there was money on the line.
How come no one ever rips the banner anymore?

I think it’s because they’re too tough these days. They use so much sticky tape on the banners that it’s hard enough to run through them.
Hi Ash. Did Mitch Golby re-injure himself this year? Also, James Brain is a NSW Scholarship Player. Will he be available to the Lions in the coming draft? Because I see he is currently playing for GWS.

Hi Alastair. Yeah, unfortunately Mitch hurt his knee a few weeks back. He didn’t need another full knee reconstruction, but it was enough to keep him out for the rest of the season.
As for our NSW Scholarship Players - I’m not really too sure. I think the Club gets first crack at drafting them when they’re old enough. But I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
Hey Ash, I play for Broadbeach down the Gold Coast and I play full-back. What would be some of the main tactics you would recommend to shut down the big full-forwards? Also, who has been the toughest opponent you have ever played on? Thanks.

I think your tactics will depend on what you’re most comfortable doing. Some full-backs prefer to play in front of their opponents while others like to play from behind.
So long as you can keep up with your opponent and effect a spoil you’re doing okay.
As for my toughest opponent, it used to be Amon Buchanan at the Swans but he’s at the Lions now. Ryan O’Keefe from Sydney is probably the toughest guy I’ve played on.
I saw Daniel Merrett a few weeks back in a shop quite late at night grabbing a family apple pie and ice cream. Can you guys pretty much eat anything you want because you train so much or do you have strict diets to adhere to?

We have diets, but most blokes are able to eat whatever they like because they can work it off pretty quickly.
But to hear that Daniel Merrett went for the family size apple pie is a bit strange because he and his wife don’t have any kids. I might have to ask him about that one…

Hi Ash, congratulations on your 150th game recently. It’s a fantastic achievement. I just wanted to say it was great to see the Leadership Group come out in support of Vossy and the Club last week. I thought it was a positive show of unity. Do you hold any goals of being in the Leadership Group? From what I hear, you are held in a very high regard by many of your team-mates - particularly the backline players.

Being one of the more experienced blokes, you always try and help out when you can. But I’m happy with where I’m at around the Club and I think our current Leadership Group are doing a good job and don’t really need any extra help.

But Joel Patfull doesn’t and he is looking around frantically for one. If there are any people you know that might be interested, send me a note through the Club website and I’ll be sure to pass them onto him.
Is there any talk around the Club of a 'best of' DVD being compiled of our amazing former Captain Michael Voss? It would be awesome to have something to show the future generations (such as my son)! Go Lions!

I honestly have no idea - but I’m sure there would be plenty of highlights.
Although I do hear rumours that the ‘best of’ Ash McGrath DVD is currently in production. It will be sold at K-Mart and should be out by Christmas.
