AS AFL fans entertain the possibility that a player might kick 100 goals in a season for the first time since 2008, footy fans in north-west Tasmania are hailing a star who is a decent chance of bringing up the double ton this year.

Rohan Baldock, 27, the playing coach of reigning premier South Burnie in the Darwin Football Association, kicked his 100th goal at the weekend after just nine games.

A bag of 21 against Yeoman on May 7 was the biggest haul of his life, overtaking the 20 he booted against Queenstown three weeks prior.

His 14-goal effort against Ridgley a week after the 21 was almost mundane in comparison, and the two occasions he registered 10 goals – including the bag against Cuprona last weekend that helped bring up his ton – look relatively ordinary.

As for the secret to putting so many through the big sticks, Baldock said it was pretty simple.

"You've just got to be the coach and make sure everyone kicks you the ball. That's how you kick bags every week," he joked.

Baldock is just about the most famous name in Tasmanian football, thanks to the exploits of St Kilda premiership captain Darrel, and Rohan thinks he is related to the man affectionately known as 'Doc'.

The Tasmanian champion and AFL Legend captained the Saints to their sole premiership in 1966.

"He might be my Nan's cousin or something like that," Rohan Baldock said of the man he never met.

With 10 matches remaining in the season, plus a finals berth looking likely with the Hawks sitting second on the ladder, Baldock's final tally could conceivably hit 200.

If he does, hopefully the celebration is bigger than when he hit the century.

"I just had a few beers with the boys and just got back on to business. It's still only early days, so I didn't want to dwell on it too much."

Others approaching the 100-goal milestone include Evandale's Matthew Clayton on 74, who plays in the Northern Tasmanian Football Association, and Albury's Josh Mellington on 64, in the Ovens and Murray Football League.

Mellington spent three years in the AFL and played six games for Fremantle.
