Collingwood’s Sharrod Wellingham is free to play in the club’s preliminary final after the Match Review Panel decided not to charge him following the weekend’s victory over West Coast.

The MRP assessed two incidents involving Wellingham during the third quarter of the Magpies’ 20-point qualifying final triumph - the first a bump on Beau Waters and the second high contact with Mark LeCras.

After viewing all available footage and obtaining a medical report from West Coast regarding both incidents, it was the view of the panel that the force used to make contact with LeCras was below that required to constitute a reportable offence.

The panel considered the majority of contact to Waters was made to the body. The high contact that was made was below the force required to constitute a reportable offence.

No further action was taken on either incident, and no other incidents involving Collingwood players were formally assessed.

Wellingham, 23, kicked three first-half goals and finished with 21 possessions and four clearances to play a big part in the win over the Eagles. He has played 18 games in 2011 for a career total of 70.

The Magpies will take on the winner of Hawthorn and Sydney on Friday 23 September at the MCG for a place in the Grand Final.

The team is set to be bolstered by the return of Dale Thomas, who has served his two-week suspension, while the club is hopeful key defender Ben Reid will be available for selection after missing one match with a groin injury.

No fresh injuries were reported from the Eagles game.
