MELBOURNE will continue to treat Tom Scully as an important part of its future despite rumours that he has signed with Greater Western Sydney.

Scully's management last week denied reports that the 2009 no. 1 draft pick had signed with the AFL's 18th club but also said that they would delay contract talks with the Demons until the end of the season.

Former Swans coach Paul Roos urged the Demons to shun Scully if they learnt he had signed with another club.

But Melbourne coach Dean Bailey said he would pay no attention to the rumours and innuendo surrounding Scully's future.

"I think as far as we're concerned, until we get told otherwise I'll just assume he is going to be a Melbourne player for the next 10, 12 or 14 years. I hope so. The speculation is going to continue without adding anything to it," Bailey told Melbourne radio station 3AW.

"I think he'll be in a Melbourne jumper for a long period of time."

Bailey refused to comment on what he would do if he learnt that any of his players had decided before the end of the season that they would change clubs.

"I think when and if it happens then we can jump that hurdle," he said.

Another Melbourne no. 1 draft pick, Jack Watts looks set to hold down a key forward role for the Demons after impressing in Friday night's NAB Cup matches against Adelaide and Port Adelaide.

Bailey said he expected improvement in 2011 from the highly-scrutinised Watts.

"I think Jack showed on Friday night that he is a lead-up forward and can also play deep in the goal square. Jack is only an 18-game player but he showed some signs on the weekend where his hands were pretty good," he said.

"He took a couple of nice marks and took a contested mark at the back of the pack that showed he can really read the ball particularly well. He is a good decision maker and he will get better as more games get into him."
