ESSENDON captain Dyson Heppell is back to strengthen the Bombers' finals bid against West Coast on Tuesday night. 

Heppell will play his first game since fracturing his ankle at training after round two, with Michael Hurley and Sam Draper back from being managed.

Despite the five-day break, the Bombers have opted against resting Joe Daniher after his impressive return from a long injury layoff last week.

The Eagles have recalled Lewis Jetta after his axing following round four, while Oscar Allen is back to boost a forward line without Josh Kennedy (concussion) and Jamie Cripps, who has returned to Perth to be with his pregnant partner. 

Former first-round pick Jarrod Brander has been dumped again along with first-year forward Nic Reid, while Jack Redden (adductor) and Jackson Nelson (shoulder) are back.

The Bombers have axed ruckman Andrew Phillips, wingman Brayden Ham and defender Mason Redman.

In the earlier match on Tuesday night, the Hawks have made five changes including recalling captain Ben Stratton, Jarman Impey and Shaun Burgoyne from rests. 

First-year sensation Will Day, midfielder Liam Shiels and defender Sam Frost have been managed off the short turnaround, while Mitch Lewis returns to replace the injured Jon Patton. 

James Frawley (thumb) is back from injury to replace Michael Hartley. 

Gun defender Daniel Talia joins free agent Brad Crouch back in the Crows' line-up with Jordon Butts injured and Ben Crocker omitted.
