David Koch’s career has been filled with ‘number ones’ including currently being the co-host of the number one breakfast television show in the country – Sunrise. Today he added to that list, when he was announced as the Joint No. 1 Ticket Holder of the Port Adelaide Football Club.
The announcement was made by Power captain Warren Tredrea live on Sunrise, with Tredrea presenting Koch with a No. 1 guernsey. Neither Tredrea nor Koch could hide their excitement.
Koch will share the honour with the man he says his father, Dean, idolised – former Port Adelaide champion Robert (Bob) Quinn, MM.
Port Adelaide chief executive John James said it was fantastic to have such a passionate supporter who has achieved so much accept the position.
“We’re absolutely thrilled to have David on board,” said James. “Kochie’s a local boy whose love of the Port Adelaide Football Club dates back more than four decades.
“Kochie represents much of what the Port Adelaide Football Club stands for – he’s passionate, a great family man, and has worked hard to become the best in the business. He has the respect of the nation, and we are grateful he has agreed to join Bob Quinn as our No. 1 Ticket Holder.”
Koch, 51, is very much a Port Adelaide man. He grew up in Largs Bay, attending Largs Primary. He spent much of his childhood watching football at Alberton, enjoying premierships at Adelaide Oval, while wearing the number 17 of champion Geof Motley on his back. His father played reserves football for Port Adelaide.
Despite having spent most of his working life away from Adelaide forging his career as a financial commentator, and now as one of Channel 7’s leading personalities and co-host of the most loved breakfast show in the country, Koch has maintained his passion for the Port Adelaide Football Club.
Koch said that it was an honor to be named Joint No. 1 Ticket Holder of the club he has followed his whole life.
“I feel really humbled to not only be asked, but to share it with a legend like Bob Quinn, who was my father’s absolute idol,” Koch said.
“It was that Bob Quinn era with Lew Roberts and co., that my father would idolise and talk to us about as kids, so it is a huge honour.
“While I haven’t lived in Adelaide for a long time now, I have always followed the club. My aunties, uncles and cousins are all very much Port Adelaide supporters. Both lots of grandparents lived in Semaphore, and were dyed-in-the-wool Port Adelaide supporters too.”
Koch joins Bob Quinn MM, who has held this position since 2002. Former Port Adelaide player, now media commentator, Dwayne Russell, has again been appointed the club’s No. 1 Ticket Holder in Victoria.
