NOW THAT the Toyota AFL Grand Final is locked in for Brisbane, it's time to work out where the other eight finals will be staged.

Should it earn the right, Port Adelaide will be able to play a home final at Adelaide Oval in any of the first three weeks of the finals series.

However, given tighter restrictions in Western Australia, West Coast looks set to only be able to play an Optus Stadium final in week one.

Should, as expected, Brisbane wins its final three matches, it will qualify first or second and host a home qualifying final at the Gabba.

But if they don't, the Lions could enter the finals in third or fourth with a double chance as the 'away' side.

In that case, Richmond and Geelong would be doing everything they can to get a 'home' final away from the Gabba if they draw the Lions.

With the AFL to communicate more specific details on the first three week of finals venues in coming days, it looks like that teams that qualify higher will be able to choose.

Right now, 10 clubs can finish either first and second or fifth and sixth and earn a 'home' final in week one. 

Here's a breakdown on where your club will likely play any 'home' final and what the numbers say to back them up.  

PORT ADELAIDE

2020 win-loss: Adelaide Oval (5-1), Gabba (2-1), Metricon Stadium (4-1)
Last five years win-loss: Adelaide Oval (31-24), Gabba (4-2), Metricon Stadium (5-1)

Locked and loaded for the first three weeks of finals at the Adelaide Oval … if they qualify that way. With the South Australian borders in and out of Queensland open for business, the Power will have no difficulty hosting finals against any opponents before the Grand Final.

RICHMOND

2020: Adelaide Oval (0-1), Gabba (2-0), Metricon Stadium (5-0)
Last five years: Adelaide Oval (2-6), Gabba (4-0), Metricon Stadium (8-0)

Haven't lost a game in Queensland since 2014 so neither venue will hold any fears. But given most of the Tigers' Queensland games have been on the Gold Coast this year, and the fact they're training outside the venue, it appears they'll opt for Metricon Stadium as their 'home' finals venue. It will also be a bonus should they host the Lions and get them away from the Gabba. The only downside will be that if they play all their finals at Metricon Stadium before the decider, they won't have played at the Gabba since round 12. However, a big win in last year's qualifying final – also under lights – will give them great confidence.

BRISBANE

Remember the days when the Lions used to have to host 'home' preliminary finals at the MCG? Now that the finals series is coming to their backyard, they just need to do their bit and qualify first or second and earn the right to play their qualifying final at the Gabba. Win that and they'll secure a home preliminary final.

WEST COAST

2020: Adelaide Oval (yet to play), Gabba (2-1), Metricon Stadium (1-3), Optus Stadium (7-0)
Last five years: Adelaide Oval (6-1), Gabba (4-2), Metricon Stadium (1-4), Optus Stadium (28-6)

The pre-finals bye means that if the Eagles earn the right to a home final in week one, they'll be able to get to Perth, as well as their opponents, and quarantine in time for a match at Optus Stadium. From there it gets tricky, with AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan all but shutting the door on an Eagles home preliminary final being in the west. Due to their record in Queensland this year, the Eagles should consider taking their opponents to Adelaide in weeks two or three if they're the 'home' side given the borders from Queensland to SA are open for business. Remember Luke Shuey's match-winner in the 2017 elimination final?

GEELONG

Last five years: Adelaide Oval (5-4), Gabba (4-1), Metricon Stadium (4-1)

The Cats have set-up base on the Gold Coast but are undecided on where they'd stage a 'home' final in week one between Metricon Stadium and the Gabba. However, they have ruled out flying to Adelaide Oval as a 'home' team. Key forward Tom Hawkins told ABC over the weekend he'd personally prefer the Gabba, but the Cats' record at both grounds is identical in recent times. If they draw the Lions as the higher ranked team, the choice will be easy to take it to Metricon Stadium.

COLLINGWOOD

Last five years: Adelaide Oval (3-2), Gabba (6-1), Metricon Stadium (2-0)

Still a mathematical chance to nab a top four berth, but any 'home' final this year is likely to come in an elimination final if they finish fifth or sixth. Pies officials aren't weighing into any possibilities at this stage, but all signs point to the Gabba… if they're not hosting the Lions. The Pies are set-up at Twin Waters on the Sunshine Coast – closer to the Gabba – and by season's end will have played at least six, possibly seven matches in Brisbane compared to none at Metricon Stadium.

ST KILDA

2020: Adelaide Oval (2-0), Gabba (2-2), Metricon Stadium (1-1)
Last five years: Adelaide Oval (2-6), Gabba (2-2), Metricon Stadium (2-2)

The Saints will choose the Gabba as their venue of choice if they win the right to host an elimination final. Based in Noosa on the Sunshine Coast, the Gabba is one hour closer than Gold Coast and the Saints believes it helps their style of play. They will 'host' a home game against Hawthorn at Metricon Stadium this Sunday before a date with West Coast at the Gabba in round 17 and finish the season against Greater Western Sydney in a clash likely to be also in Brisbane.

MELBOURNE

Last five years: Adelaide Oval (5-1), Gabba (3-2), Metricon Stadium (2-2)

The Demons aren't buying into the conversation of where it will stage any 'home' elimination final just yet. However, given they're training in Maroochydore on the Sunshine Coast, the Gabba would make the most sense in terms of proximity. Plus, they haven't won at Metricon Stadium this year and aren't likely to visit the venue again with round 18 against Essendon tipped to be at the Gabba. It may be a left-field idea, but if the AFL ticks off on two neutral teams taking a final to Adelaide, would the Demons ask the question of going to Alice Springs where they've got a partnership and won last weekend?

GWS GIANTS

2020: Adelaide Oval (yet to play), Gabba (yet to play), Metricon Stadium (2-1)
Last five years: Adelaide Oval (4-4), Gabba (4-0), Metricon Stadium (4-1)

The Giants have set-up camp on the Gold Coast, so should they qualify to host a final, it would appear Metricon Stadium would be the venue of choice. They will play their fourth game of the season on the Gold Coast on Thursday night against Carlton and are scheduled to visit the Gabba for the first time next weekend when they tackle Melbourne.

WESTERN BULLDOGS

2020: Adelaide Oval (0-1), Gabba (0-1), Metricon Stadium (4-3)
Last five years: Adelaide Oval (1-5), Gabba (1-2), Metricon Stadium (4-3)

Currently based on the Gold Coast, the Dogs are likely to choose Metricon Stadium if they can scrape into sixth position and earn hosting rights in an elimination final. They've got a winning record at the venue this year and will get another chance to see it on Sunday against West Coast. They're also not scheduled to visit the Gabba again this year, a ground they've played at once this year for one loss.
