NORTH Melbourne coach Brad Scott has condemned the racial abuse directed at Majak Daw by a spectator during Saturday's VFL game between Werribee and Port Melbourne at TEAC Oval.

"I reaffirmed to (Daw) our horror and disgust that there are still certain elements in Australian society that would resort to that sort of disgusting behaviour," Scott said after his team's 47-point victory over Adelaide on Sunday at Etihad Stadium.

"I think the total condemnation of the incident reflects the Australian attitude towards racial vilification. So I think it's an extremely rare case, as it should be. I hope the VFL deal with it in the harshest possible fashion."

Scott said the incident had "rattled" Daw, who was born in war-torn African country Sudan and subsequently spent time in a refugee camp in Egypt before migrating to Australia with his family.

Scott said Daw's journey to North Melbourne's rookie list had been an "inspiration" to other African migrants. Mindful of his newfound status, Scott said Daw had decided he had to take a stand against Saturday's incident, a stand North Melbourne fully supported.

"Majak's now part of the North Melbourne Football Club so to see everyone, not only the players but all of the staff, rally around him is what we get when you come to North Melbourne," Scott said.
