COLLINGWOOD'S Chris Dawes is set to remain in black and white with the key forward on the verge of signing a new deal with the club.

Dawes, 23, is out of contract at the end of the season and has been the subject of intense trade speculation, but he was keen to lay the matter to rest when asked about possibly ending his time at the club with a premiership on Saturday.

"The premiership team is always going to change each year in terms of personnel, [but] I'll be here next year, which I'm looking forward to," Dawes said.

"I reckon, with the group we've got, we've got the ability to win a few flags or at least compete for them so that's really exciting and makes this club an exciting place to be."

The grand final will be Dawes' 48th AFL game since being selected by the Pies with the 28th overall pick of the 2006 NAB AFL Draft.

He has played 17 games this year and kicked 27 goals, but was slowed by surgery on a fractured knuckle that saw him miss six games in the second half of the season.

Several clubs are looking to bolster their attacking stocks during the trade period and Dawes would have attracted significant interest if he had elected to test the market but negotiations on a new contract with Collingwood are at an advanced stage.

With his playing future all but secured, Dawes is looking forward to teaming with fellow tall forward Travis Cloke to play their parts in helping the club to back-to-back flags.

The tall tandem had a torrid time of it against Hawthorn in last week's tight preliminary final, but still managed to kick three goals each in the three-point win.

"It was a dominant performance from Trav and I played my role," he said.

"He's been in great form all year so for me, to be able to play my role alongside him, it's pretty easy to fit in with him.

"I think Trav and I should both have a fair bit of confidence given we were able to create a lot of contests and Trav was able to pluck a strong mark and we both hit the scoreboard, which is satisfying."
