WEST Coast draftee Luke Shuey has been given indefinite leave by the Eagles after the death of his sister, Melanie, in a road accident.

Melanie, 17, was struck by a motorbike and killed while crossing a road in the Melbourne suburb of Eltham early on Sunday morning.

She was also a close friend of Essendon draftee David Zaharakis.

West Coast communications manager Gary Stocks told the Herald Sun that the club would support Shuey in every possible way.

"He went back on Sunday [to Melbourne] and he'll stay there for as long as he needs," he said.

"He's got as much time as required."

Zaharakis arrived for training on Monday but was immediately given time off by the Bombers.

Shuey, 18, was selected at No.18 in the 2008 NAB AFL Draft, while Zaharakis was taken with pick No.23.
