ST KILDA defender Sam Fisher has rejected speculation linking him to Greater Western Sydney by declaring he wants to be a one-club player.

Fisher has been one of many AFL players linked to the League's newest club. The Giants can recruit an uncontracted player from each club, with the Saints yet to be raided.

The All Australian defender's contract expires at the end of this year but he said he was hoping to sign a new deal to stay at the Saints.

"I basically want to be a one-club player and St Kilda have given me the opportunity and been such a great help for my career," Fisher told AFL.com.au at an AFL golf day.

"I'd love to be able to repay them and stay a one-club player."

Fisher said he was not concerned that speculation would linger about his future as the season wore on.

"It doesn't really bother me. It is something that will go on behind the scenes with my management group and the club," he said.

"Whenever that gets done, it gets done so it's got nothing to do with the way I go about my footy."

Fisher's teammate and golf partner Brendon Goddard has also been frequently mentioned as a potential GWS target.

Both will be restricted free agents at season's end.

Goddard told AFL.com.au it was simply a fact that free agency was part of the modern football landscape.

"It's obviously been coming around for a while and we've seen some of that in some respects with Gary Ablett and a few other guys moving," he said.

"It's a part of our game now and it's here to stay so I'll deal with that in due course."

The St Kilda utility was tight lipped on the progress of his own contract negotiations

"That will be left between my manager and myself and the footy club to sort that out," he said.

"Right now I'm concentrating on my footy and to perform consistently to try and improve the Saints and have a successful season."
