MIDFIELDER Jordan Lewis summed up the sentiments of the Hawthorn change rooms after Saturday's win over Collingwood with one word: belief.

A thrilling three-point victory over the top-of-the-table Magpies has given Lewis and his teammates some crucial confidence heading into September.

"The belief in this group is huge. We know we've got a very talented group that can take it up to any team," Lewis said.

"Our games this year against the top sides have been right down to the wire, whether that's been against Geelong or St Kilda and now Collingwood. I think if we come up against anyone, we're pretty confident we can execute what we want to execute and win games."

Saturday's result was a stunning form reversal since the last time Hawthorn faced Collingwood - a 64-point defeat in round four.

It also completed a remarkable season from a club that started with one win from its first seven matches, then produced seven straight wins.

"It has been hard to gauge our form all year, especially last week when the side wasn't great," Lewis said.

"Coming up against Collingwood who are the in-form team of the competition at the moment - what better side to put yourself up against?"

Lewis and the Hawks will wait on the result of Saturday night's Sydney Swans-Brisbane Lions clash to find out whether they have secured a home final, or will be forced to travel across the country to take on Fremantle.

"I think winning form is good form. We've come off two good games. Albeit it wasn't a great side last week on the field, [but] we got a lot of confidence out of that and we played the way we wanted to play," Lewis said.

"Today probably 80 per cent went right and we know we still need to improve on a few things, but it's just those wins that give you momentum going into the finals which is so important.

"Now we'll just watch tonight's game which will give us an idea of where we're heading. It's out of our control now."
