VODAFONE and the North Melbourne Football Club announced a new joint-major sponsorship, a deal which strengthens North Melbourne’s future in Melbourne.

James Brayshaw, chairman of the North Melbourne Football Club, said Vodafone’s support is a major coup.

“We are blessed to be able to secure another truly successful international organisation as a joint-major sponsor. Having Vodafone on board is an indescribable bonus for our club, their reputation as a sponsor of elite sport is world renowned,” Brayshaw said.

“It makes a huge statement about the future of the North Melbourne Football Club that a company like Vodafone has elected to join us on our journey,” he said.

After strong pre-Christmas sales, North Melbourne is aiming at 30,000 members for 2008.

“We are currently sitting just under 20,000 members, 8000 more than at the same time last year. This is a great story and today’s announcement makes it even better.”

Paul Guerra, general manager for Vodafone Victoria, said that just like the North Melbourne Football Club, Vodafone is committed to Melbourne.

“This sponsorship is part of a broader strategy that will see Vodafone deliver even more for Victorian customers.

“We kicked off the year by announcing plans to upgrade our network to provide Vodafone customers with faster speeds, better performance and improved services.

“And now the North Melbourne Football Club sponsorship will allow us to enhance the AFL experience for fans – with opportunities to get up close and personal with the team,” he said.
