Voss said the Blues had taken their tackling pressure and intensity to new levels this year, as evidenced by their 83-point demolition of Richmond in round one.
“Watching Carlton last week play against Richmond, I mean they physically monstered the Tigers in my opinion,” Voss said.
“We go into their backyard and we’re going to have that team that’s going to come out there and try to do that to us, so we have to be physically ready to be able to take that on.”
“They seem to be one team that’s up and going in the early part of the season.”
Voss has a virtually injury-free list with which to work, with the exception of Jared Brennan who is still one to two weeks away with a quad strain.
He faces the tough decision of having to axe a player from a winning team to make way for the expected return of Brownlow medallist Simon Black.
Tagger Troy Selwood would appear to be in danger of missing out, but may get the nod to stop Chris Judd after doing a solid job on Daniel Kerr, holding him to 17 touches and one goal.
“He’s (Selwood) obviously put a fair bit of focus on trying to play on those real power players,” Voss said.
“There’s a couple of those that play for Carlton, so it will be another great test for Troy.”
Voss said stopping Carlton’s impressive list of midfielders would be the team’s biggest challenge.
But the return of Simon Black should help its cause after he was a last minute withdrawal against the Eagles, suffering the effects of the flu.
“Physically he has no ailments whatsoever, so it’s now just about getting training under his belt so we can hopefully slot him in that team,” Voss said.
