Future Stars is the entry level program of the Lions Academy and is designed to allow boys that haven’t played football with a junior AFL club the opportunity to experience a short development training program, which culminates in a regional carnival night of games.
Over 100 boys from the Toowoomba, Sunshine Coast, Brisbane North, Brisbane West and Brisbane South-East regions took part this year, with participants selected largely from school AFL competitions.
While AFL Queensland were primarily responsible for driving the identification process, some school teachers also played an active role in nominating some of their more talented students.
Performance in last week's Future Stars carnival night formed the basis for selection in the 2012 Academy squad, along with feedback from regional coaches and AFL Queensland development staff.
Players that have been selected in each of the Hyundai Lions Academy groups will go on to participate in a series of training sessions and camps throughout 2012 to further develop their AFL skills and game knowledge.
