The 2008 Telstra AFL Community Camp has once again proven that the purple passion spreads far and wide in regional WA.

With Fremantle docking in Albany this morning for the two day camp footy fans came in their droves to Railways Oval this afternoon to welcome the Fremantle Football Club to town.

There was plenty on offer for the town folk with a NAB AFL Auskick Superclinic for children aged 5-12, as well as a community BBQ to raise funds for local junior football clubs.

The Superclinic kicked off at 2.00pm and was a huge hit with the children with more than 300 footy fanatics shown the tricks of the trade by Johnny ‘the Doc’ Docker, as well as their favourite Fremantle players including Matthew Pavlich, Josh Carr, and Shaun McManus.

As well as the important footy skills, the children also enjoyed tug-of-war challenges, revelled in the vortex throwing and also walked away with a team poster which they had signed by the players, with Robert Warnock’s one of the most sought after.

“The clinics are always great fun as the children have a ball interacting with the players,” Robert said.

“There was also plenty of children wearing Fremantle gear which is good to see. The people of Albany have been fantastic so far.”

The players then hit the track at Collingwood Park in front of a lively local crowd and six talented young footballers from through the Great Southern Region were given the chance to showcase their skills alongside their AFL heroes in Matthew Pavlich, Dean Solomon and Josh Carr.

The evening’s itinerary sees the players mix with the locals at the Sportsman’s Night, which includes a panel show and at dinner at the Albany Golf Course.
