Nathan will be working with Head of Skill Development Darren Trevena and Head of Welfare/Leadership and Culture Manny Lynch in fast-tracking the development of the many young players now at the Club.
Part of this role will include coaching the Club's Reserves side and overseeing the new alliance between the Brisbane Lions and Western Magpies of the QAFL.
Nathan is a past Lions player listed with the Club from 2000 to 2002. For six years he served as a playing coach at AFL Canberra for the Eastlake Football Club, before re-joining the Lions in 2010, where he has been working as the Head Coach of the Lions Academy for the past season.
Nathan will bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to this role and complement the new program for player development.
"I am really looking forward to this new challenge in my career as I believe the development of young players in a footy Club is instrumental," Nathan said.
"I am thrilled to be working alongside some great guys in Darren and Manny, and I'm keen to get stuck in straight away and prepare for season 2011."
Nathan has already commenced his new role with the Club and will be finalising his commitments to the Lions Academy until a replacement Head Coach is found.
