New Southern Steel star recruit Natasha Chokljat visited Hobart to conduct a training session with Mount Carmel College.

The year 9/10 Mount Carmel netball team received a training session with the former Melbourne Vixen player for winning their division in the Tassie Hawks Netball Shield.

Run with the support of Netball Tasmania, the Tassie Hawks Netball Shield involves year nine and 10 students participating in weekly inter-school matches, with matches held in different regions across the State.

Mount Carmel College secured this year’s title in a hard-fought win against Scottsdale High School in the grand final of the Tassie Hawks Netball Shield.

The session began with Chokljat outlining her career pathway from a  young netballer in Tasmania to the elite level in Australia.

Chokljat also spoke about the training demands of an elite netballer and the need to look after yourself off the court with the right diet and recovery routines to perform at a consistently high level.

After the information session, the students hit the court for a one hour training session with Chokljat. The Mount Carmel girls were put through their paces with different drills testing their speed, agility, ball skills and teamwork. The girls displayed some terrific skills and attacked the session with great enthusiasm.

The Hawks provided lunch after the gruelling training session and Chokljat presented a highlights DVD and spent some time answering questions from the students

It was great to have Chokljat return to Tasmania to give something back to the community and she was an excellent role model for the students to interact with.

A fantastic day was had by all, a big thank you to Natasha Chokljat, Kellie Tahiri from Netball Tasmania, and Angela Green and her students from Mount Carmel.
