ST KILDA has Nick Riewoldt and Justin Koschitzke. Essendon has Matthew Lloyd and Scott Lucas and Fremantle has Matthew Pavlich and Chris Tarrant.

Now Adelaide is on track to develop its own combination of twin talls in attack, albeit, probably not this season.

Prior to the NAB Cup competition the mention of names Kurt Tippett and James Sellar would've sent most people outside of Adelaide diving for their footy records.

But after a strong showing during the pre-season, Tippett and Sellar have forced fans and, more importantly the Crows match committee, to take notice.

Tippett kicked a goal in each of Adelaide's four NAB Cup games, including a four-goal haul in the Grand Final against St Kilda on Saturday night.

Sellar, 18, also got his name on the scoreboard, most noticeably against Collingwood in Dubai, where he booted three majors.

Adelaide defender Ben Rutten said he was impressed by the duo's development.

"I spend a lot of time playing on James Sellar and Kurt Tippett at training and I've noticed a fair bit of improvement in both of them since last pre-season," Rutten said.

"It was good to see them take it from the training track to the games during the NAB Cup because it's always a bit of an unknown just seeing them do well at training.

"So for Kurt and James to be able to take some things that they've learned and to put them into match day was exciting for me."

Tippett, 20, is in serious consideration for round one of the season proper, while

Sellar, who was left out of Adelaide's NAB Cup Grand Final side, will push for selection with SANFL club Glenelg.

In Rutten's opinion, both are capable of playing AFL this season.

"You saw what Kurt can do on Saturday night and James has progressed a lot in terms of me playing on him a year ago to now," he said.

"Sellsy's [Sellar] improved his body strength and the way he leads and moves and I think he certainly has the ability to fit in and play in our forward line.

"Both he and Kurt have put on some extra weight and they know how to use their bodies a bit better in marking contests now.

"Selection for spots in round one isn't my job, but it would be good to see them both up there in the future."

The Crows had a "quiet" day at West Lakes on Monday after their afternoon skills session was cancelled because of the 40-degree heat.

Nathan Bassett (shoulder) and Chris Knights (quad) were taking it extra easy, but both are expected to play against the Western Bulldogs in round one.

Despite losing to St Kilda in the decider, Rutten said the NAB Cup competition had been "worthwhile" for the Crows.

"We're reasonably happy with the pre-season as a whole and we got a fair few positives out of it," he said.

"I think the playing group has more confidence in some of the younger guys [after their performances in the NAB Cup] and I think the young guys, some of whom haven't played an AFL game yet, have some more confidence in themselves too.

"We've got a bit of momentum up now going into round one and the guys have got some confidence in the way we're playing and our game style."
