Voss joined his fellow coaches and the Lions playing group for the first time since the Brisbane flood devastated Queensland’s capital city on Thursday morning when the team trained at Giffin Park, Coorparoo.
Once training was complete, the former Lions triple premiership Captain paid visit to the RNA Showgrounds evacuation centre to speak with some of those who have been directly affected.
"I think we're all in a little bit of shock in some ways,” Voss said.
“But while we've been shocked about what's been going on, we're also being inspired by the way that people are getting behind one another."
"Now it's about getting into recovery mode and when the waters go down, I encourage everyone to pitch in and help."
"We all have personal friends and family that have been affected by it and we just can't believe the enormity of what we've seen."
While the Lions are preparing for their pre-season campaign next month, Voss said training has become secondary to the issues which have engulfed the Sunshine State.
“There’s only four weeks to go before our first NAB Cup game so we can’t stop training altogether,” Voss said.
“But the Club is determined to help in the aftermath of this tragedy and we will look at rescheduling training sessions so our boys can roll up their sleeves and help out wherever they can.”
“Right now there is still a lot of water to recede and lots of volunteers are required to help out.”
“I’d imagine the next few days, then weeks, will be when the boys will be most required and we’ll do whatever we can - even if that means training and mopping up on the same day,” he said.
Voss and some of his players got their hands dirty in Milton this morning to help some of the local residents with their clean-up and the Club will also visit evacuation centres this afternoon.
