Invited to take part in the inaugural 'Journalism In Action' sports panel at La Trobe University together with Melbourne Heart’s Youth Coach John Aloisi and Australia Netball captain Sharelle McMahon, the 20-year old showed maturity well beyond his years.
With hundreds of potential sports journalists in the lecture theatre, Daw faced a barrage of questions about his early life in Sudan, his first taste of Aussie Rules, career ambitions, experiences with the media and AFL expectations.
La Trobe Senior Lecturer and Degree Coordinator David Lowden was blown away by Majak’s ability to communicate with the young group.
“Majak spoke with insight, sincerity and honesty. You could have heard a pin drop when he was speaking.”
Designed to cultivate interest in the university’s Australian-first Bachelor of Sport Journalism degree, the day was a huge success, thanks largely to Daw, Aloisi and McMahon.
