Sydney Swans players have taken time-out from training to meet 140 young Australian footballers, participating in an AFL holiday camp and AFL boot camp, in Sydney.
The camps provide a fun and healthy program for boys and girls aged 5-16 years and include AFL skills, modified games, watching the Swans train and AFL draft like testing for boot camp participants.
Ben McGlynn, Jarred Moore, Rhyce Shaw and Nick Smith addressed the camps this morning, explaining how they rose from the ranks of eager juniors, to elite AFL players.
The enthusiastic young juniors then had the chance to put their press hat on and ask some burning questions.
One youngster in a Swans guernsey asked McGlynn and Moore if they knew Adam Goodes and Kieren Jack, while another was keen to hear what the guys ate for breakfast.
“I eat five weet-bix and a banana every morning,” replied McGlynn.
The group of youngsters seemed quite taken by the demanding training regime undertaken by players at the top level, explained by both Moore and McGlynn,
Players in the boot camp will tomorrow take part in a clinic overseen by Swans assistant coach Stuart Dew and Talent Identification Manager Chris Smith, while younger holiday camp participants will watch the Swans go through their paces out at Lakeside Oval.
