AS ONE of the hot favourites to take this year's Brownlow Medal, Adam Goodes is in familiar territory.

But Goodes, who won the award in 2003 and 2006, says it is difficult to compare his 2011 season to his two medal-winning years.

"I find it really hard to compare years. To tell you the truth I haven't really reflected on this year at all. It's pretty fresh, we've only been out a week now," the Sydney Swans midfielder said.

"We've got the best and fairest coming up in a couple of weeks and that's when I really reflect on my season, because the best and fairest is a true mark of my performance and you paying your role at the football club. We'll see how that goes."

The Swans co-captain says he is not expecting to become a triple-Brownlow medalist on Monday night, but is tipping that Carlton skipper Chris Judd could fall in to that category.

TAB Sportsbet has Judd as a $1.75 favourite to win, with Goodes second in line at $5.

He is predicting a Judd victory, but expects two new contenders to emerge.

"It's interesting. It's going to be a really interesting count. We've got a couple more rounds this year so that might make the count go a bit longer than usual," he said.

"Obviously Juddy's the favourite and it would be nice to see Scotty Pendlebury from Collingwood get his fair share of votes too. I reckon Marc Murphy is someone who'll get a lot of votes too.

"You never know what's going to happen, that's the best thing about the Brownlow."

With 137 career votes to his name, Goodes is an old hand when it comes to Brownlow night. But he admits to some butterflies in the stomach when it hits the home stretch and he finds himself in the running.

"I think you get nervous when it gets to about round 20 and you know you've had a couple of good games in the last couple of rounds," he said.

"Up until that point it's about having a good night with the people who are sitting on your table and rubbing shoulders with the boys from other teams. I'm looking forward to having a beer with Simon Black tonight. He's always good to get around."
