ST KILDA coach Ross Lyon says he has no concerns with his side’s late game this Sunday leading into the finals.

The Saints play Essendon in a Sunday night twilight game this week, giving them the shortest possible rest before the finals begin the following week.

“The concern is you come off that and you hope you get a seven day break but we can’t control that. There are that many possibilities of who could end up where. You can’t think about it,” Lyon said.

“We’ve got a job at hand. Those peripheral issues I’ll leave to people who’ve got time for it.”

The Saints are one of five finals bound teams within a game of each other and Lyon said they would give their all against Essendon in the hope of finishing as high on the ladder as possible.

“We’re yet to finalise our position so we’ll be going flat out,” he said.

“All along we’ve said it was a marathon. We’re near the finish line … and then the real season starts.”

Lyon said he would not hesitate to make changes if they were warranted as there were plenty of players knocking on the door of senior selection.

“We had some really good performances at Casey, we’ve got some young players in the side doing well for us like (Sam) Gilbert, (James) Gwilt, (Clint) Jones and (Robert)Eddy,” he said.

“(Shane) Birss came in and did his role. We’ve got a bit of pressure and some young talent keeping the pressure on the established players which we’re pleased about.

“Everyone’s accountable to form and accountable to what we value. If you drop off in any area we value, you find yourself under pressure in the team and those in-form players will come in.”
