AFL National Draft, Round 1, Pick No. 7

DANIEL RICH - Medium midfielder
Date of birth:7 July 1990
Height:183.7cm
Weight:83.2kg
Club:Subiaco / Sorrento Duncraig JFC (WA)

Rich is a high possession winning in-and-under midfielder who is hard at the ball with quality skills including a penetrating left foot kick. He was a dual All-Australian U18 selection in 2007-08 who led the competition for inside 50s and ranked second overall for clearances. This back-to-back premiership player with the Subiaco Lions also starred during WA's loss to VIC Metro with 23 disposals including six clearances and eight inside 50s. AIS/AFL Academy graduate.

Jason McCartney says:I don't think there would be many players who’ve gone into the draft in recent times being a dual-premiership player at senior level. It was interesting to watch Daniel in the U18 championships this year. Last year he was part of a gun midfield with Chris Masten, Rhys Palmer and those guys but this time he was a target for the opposition. He worked through it though and he's got a left foot which is just so penetrating. If he gets his hands on it at a centre clearance then he's putting it 20m out from goal lace out – it's just a thumping left foot.

Stats: NAB AFL U18 Championships Averages – Team: WA
Matches: 5, Kicks: 10.2, Handballs: 5.8, Disposals: 16, Marks: 2.6, Hit-Outs: 0.2, Tackles: 3.8, Goals: 0.6.

In his own words
What sort of player are you?
I’m a midfielder who doesn’t mind getting in-and-under.
Strengths?
My left foot is okay and I guess being an in-and-under type is probably a strength.
Which AFL player do you feel you most resemble?
Maybe kind of Luke Hodge just because of the left foot.

AFL National Draft, Round 2, Pick No. 25

JACK REDDEN - Medium midfielder
Date of birth:9 December 1990
Height: 188.6cm
Weight: 74.4kg
Club: Glenelg (SA)

This hardworking medium-sized midfield / forward is strong around the ball and at the contest. He is very much an inside player who wins clearances and feeds the ball out. Redden displays clean skills and can take a contested mark. His inside clearance work in the last quarter of the SANFL U19 Grand Final virtually won the game for Glenelg. Redden has boarded at SacredHeartCollege for two years so has managed to balance his U19 football at Glenelg with school commitments. Recorded a 14.08 beep test result at SA’s state screening session to show good aerobic capacity.

Stats: NAB AFL U18 Championships Averages – Team: SA
Matches: 3, Kicks: 4.3, Handballs: 7, Disposals: 11.3, Marks: 1.7, Hit-Outs: 0.3, Tackles: 3.3, Goals: 0

TODD BANFIELD - Medium midfielder
Date of birth: 28 June 1990
Height: 181.9cm
Weight: 74.8kg
Club: Swan Districts (WA)

Incredibly quick and aggressive medium-sized midfielder who uses his turn of pace to break games open (2.87sec for 20m). Has the ability to win ball at contested situations and displays neat skills by foot.

AFL National Draft, Round 4, Pick No. 57

AARON CORNELIUS - Tall Forward
Date of birth: 29 May 1990
Height: 191.9cm
Weight: 83.7kg
Club: Tasmanian Devils / Glenorchy FC (TAS)

A tall marking forward who is strong on the lead with very clean hands which saw him ranked in the top five overall for marks in the NAB AFL U18 Championships. Was also among Tasmania's best in their final match against VIC Country kicking four goals and becoming the state's leading goal-kicker for the championships. Reads the play well and has experienced senior VFL action with the Tassie Devils. He won All-Australian U18 honours in 2007. Could become a very good centre half-forward or centre half-back. AIS/AFL Academy graduate.

Jason McCartney says:He's a very good player. All-Australian the year before last and was in our Academy as a bottom-ager – is a really good mark and played senior footy for the Devils this year and last year. In his second last championships game where the team got toweled up at Casey he was just fantastic. He was at centre half-forward on the move and he tends to take a really good contested mark where he can run and jump then float across the pack.

Tasmania U18 coach Andrew Mellor says: He's played plenty of representative footy and he's probably had to deal with the weight of expectation from Tasmania for quite some time as he's one of the most talented players to come through the ranks. He’s a very natural inside forward-50 sort of player and for straight-out talent I think he's the most talented player that I've coached.

Stats: NAB AFL U18 Championships Averages – Team: TAS
Matches: 8, Kicks: 7.5, Handballs: 3.5, Disposals: 11, Marks: 4.6, Hit-Outs: 1, Tackles: 1.1, Goals: 1.6.

In his own words
What are your biggest strengths as a player?
I think my ability to read the play and take a strong mark. I’m also pretty sneaky around the goals.
What type of player are you?
Maybe a third tall - not so much a key position - but someone who can take a mark and rove at the same time.
Which AFL player do you most resemble?
One recruiter said I reminded him of Ryan O’Keefe from the Swans so that was a compliment.

AFL National Draft, Round 5, Pick No. 69

BART McCULLOCH - Ruckman
Date of birth: 23 September 1990
Height: 198.9cm
Weight: 86kg
Club: Tassie Mariners / South Launceston (TAS)

A mobile, highly athletic and versatile ruckman who can also play as a tall forward. Has good pace and endurance for a player of his size with clean skills low to the ground plus a solid kick. Tasmanian U18 Representative in the NAB AFL U18 Championships.

Tasmania U18 coach Andrew Mellor says:For a player of his height Bart's a very good ground-level player. In addition, he has a real ability to cover the ground well and those are pretty special qualities for a kid that tall. We used him as a key forward or ruckman and we even threw him out on the wing on the odd occasion because he has such good endurance.

Stats: NAB AFL U18 Championships Averages – Team: TAS
Matches: 8, Kicks: 5, Handballs: 4.1, Disposals: 9.1, Marks: 3.3, Hit-Outs: 3.6, Tackles: 1.6, Goals: 0.9.

In his own words
Strengths?
My agility and endurance for someone my height.
Which AFL players do you try to model yourself on?
As a centre half-forward I follow Jonathan Brown and in particular Nick Riewoldt for his athleticism and the running ability he uses to take a lot of marks and his hard work. I really like to see players when they’re working hard because they deserve everything they get. And I think Nick Riewoldt, you always see him busting really hard to get to the right position and work hard, so I follow him more than anyone.
