Key Richmond midfielder Nathan Foley will make his long-awaited return to senior league football, in Sunday’s Anzac Day night clash with Fremantle at Subiaco.
Foley has been selected in the Tigers’ Round 5 team for his first game since suffering a severe ankle injury in the Round 14, 2009 match against Adelaide at Carrara.
At the time, Foley was in career-best form, averaging a career-high 25.8 disposals per game during the ’09 season. In 13 full games, he had 25 disposals or more nine times. And, he was leading the Tigers’ Best and Fairest count to that point of the season.
The 24-year-old veteran of 84 league games has spent the past couple of weeks in the VFL with Coburg (reserves initially and then seniors last Sunday). He has pulled up well from both hit-outs and is ready to for his comeback at the game’s highest level.
Foley’s return will provide the Tigers’ midfield with a significant boost, helping ease the pressure on talented young players such as Trent Cotchin and Dustin Martin.
